It sure was a good thing that Michael Vinyard made the trek to office hours . Entrepreneurship education is unlike other academic disciplines because there is not ONE right answer.
The quality of the solution, with entrepreneurship, is improved with multiple iterations. Ge

Prior to this class, although I knew I would eventually have to define my goals and view of the future, I was always putting it off. However, “I am only a sophomore...” can easily be turned into “I’m already a sophomore...” In order to solidify my future, I have to “do today what others won’t” so that I can “do tomorrow what others can’t.” Through front sight focus, solidifying my mission, and visualization, I was forced to concretely lay out my goals.
This freaked me out at first, but writing my goals down and detailing the steps and skills I would need to get there was empowering and exciting. I became a lot more confident in myself and what I stand for. Additionally, I now had a much improved resume that helped me land a summer job with my dream dance company – Hubbard Street Dance. Being a professional dancer is somewhat of a pipe dream, but this “bulletproofing” of my mission made me think that maybe it wasn’t such a pipe dream after all.
I didn’t initially buy into this course. I truthfully thought it was a bunch of fantasy. After I heard Joe point out that if we weren’t going to try and get anything from our courses, we were making a bad investment with our time and money. As an out of state student paying insane tuition rates, this was kind of a “kick in the butt” moment. So, I decided to buy in.
I visualized my day to day and my long term, and it helped me land a job, it helped me make friends, it helped me be a better family member, and it helped me define who I want to be.
Once I left my comfort zone, I made more strides in three months than I have in the past three years. I reached out to one professor, and then another, then moved on to meeting my TAs and making myself known. After that I applied for a job (and got it) and I joined a student org. I started vocalizing my ideas, beliefs, and opinions in the student org and I decided to run for office. I did my interview and now I’m the VP of the organization.
This class taught me essential things about entrepreneurship, but also about life. I feel more prepared and more confident in my future after this class. I am eager to utilize VSE, dirt-diving, and front sight focus in future classes and at my new promotion.

TEXTBOOK EXPERIENCE FOR GEN Z
The term strategize is used with the planning of your short-term goals as well as your long-term goals. I’ve used the tool, “strategize” in my own life by using a calendar to keep track of my tasks and goals throughout the month. I noticed a complete change in my productivity level where my GPA skyrocketed from 3.0 to a 3.5 due to my increase in organization. This tool allowed me to stray away from procrastinating and complete my assignments in an efficient manner.
I have come to the conclusions that strategizing is the preparation work that needs to be done in order to be successful, but that no one wants to do. These include creating an outline for a paper, communicating with teammates about steps to moving forward with a project, or practicing a presentation before giving it to the class. Maybe I am wrong to say that “no one” wants to do these things, but I always felt that they were a barrier to actually starting a project. However, I have learned that they are not barriers, but rather stepping stones to creating the best thing possible.
Visualize, Strategize, Execute is a way to look at life. It is something you can do every day to help chase your dreams. VSE allows you to prioritize and achieve your goals. Since I have started using this method in my life, I have been more organized, less stressed, and more prepared to do whatever life throws at me. It has helped me leave my comfort zone and try things I never would have thought I would find the courage to do. It has transformed my life, and made me a better version of myself.
Visualization was a life changer for me. Truthfully speaking, in no aspect of my life did I take the time to close my eyes, deep breathe, and visualize how I planned for something to happen. By doing these things, I have found my execution to be much better. VSE has helped me to put my phone away while I am doing work and to focus on only what I’m doing. By doing this, I have found my efficiency is at an all-time high and the quality of my work has improved leaps and bounds. Developing front sight focus allowed me to become more determined and have set myself on a straighter path. I saw improvement in all areas of my life once I did this.
Coming into college I knew what I wanted to study, but I didn’t know what I ultimately wanted my life to look like. I created a strong image of my ideal future through the “Visualize” portion of the VSE text. Along with the text was the dream paper assignment. Both of these were integral in completely changing my work ethic. Looking back on it, I wonder how I went about my life without a PRECISE image of what I wanted in life. Along with seeing an amazing future were all of the steps I have taken to reach the goal.
Though a small portion of the text, the deep breathing cycles in the “Execute” chapter made a big impact on the way I think in high stress situations. The mix of anxiety and public speaking has always been a weakness of mine. This was no longer a weakness after trying out breathing cycles, along with more extensive preparation. My breathing cycle was as follows: 5 second inhale, 5 second hold, and a 5 second exhale repeated three times. This simple technique of relaxation worked great.
The strategize portion of the text helped me understand how to perfect strategies such networking, crafting my resume, and preparation for numerous exams. This chapter provided me with the skills needed to achieve a goal I had set. Before this class I had never thought far into the processes I take to finish a task. Now, I plan ahead before I make the first step for a project. I have begun to religiously fill out my planner at the beginning of each week and take on the task one day at a time.

This semester I finally reached the point where I decided to throw the e-cigarette away as it was damaging to my personal brand. Before I quit, I would be unable to study for long periods of time without getting up and going outside to vape. Even when I did satisfy the craving, there was always the side effect of having a cloudy mind which I could not stand. Quitting vaping was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. With that being said, the feeling that came to me after a few months with no nicotine was amazing and I couldn’t be prouder of myself for stopping the unhealthy practice. I know that my willpower was the primary factor in quitting smoking and vaping, but I do not think I would have ever attempted to quit if it weren’t for the personal reflection I did after discussing our brands in class.
